Hailing from a village, he attended a public school and faced numerous challenges. He vividly recalled envying other children with lunch boxes and school shoes.

His self-esteem suffered as he felt looked down upon. The loss of his parents pushed him to the brink, even leading to two suicide attempts. However, little did he know that a greater purpose awaited him.

He firmly believed that education held the key to escaping poverty and placed it at the core of his life. Maosa stated, “Education was my ticket out of my dire situation. I successfully completed grade 12, earned my matric certificate, and pursued a Bachelor of Laws at university.”

Now, at 34 years old, Maosa has transcended the circumstances of his upbringing. He leverages his fame to visit rural communities, inspiring children who share his past. Recognizing a gap in motivation for rural children, Maosa decided to take action. He noticed that most celebrities tended to focus on urban areas, leaving the rural youth feeling neglected. He personally experienced the need for help while still struggling in university. In 2012, he embarked on his charitable work, officially launching the Bakgethwa Foundation three years ago.
