Messi’s terrible performance in the PSG-RSG match shows why his Ballon d’Or hype may not be warranted.
The Parc des Princes was startled by a Folarin Balogun equaliser as ten-man Paris Saint-Germain lost to Reims at home. Even if the Ligue 1 leaders weren’t at their best, they still appeared to be in complete control of the game when Neymar took them the lead early in the second half following some excellent work by Juan Bernat.
After giving up a late goal to settle for a 1-1 home draw against mid-table Stade de Reims, PSG lost further ground in Ligue 1. The reigning Ligue 1 winners’ recent four league games have resulted in two defeats and a draw.
Well, Lionel Messi played for Paris Saint-Germain in yesterday’s game despite his unexpectedly poor showing against Reims. His terrible performance today, in my opinion, proves that his Ballon d’Or hype might not be required. After Argentina and the 35-year-old took home the World Cup victory in 2018, the Ballon D’or award has been given much anticipation.
