Mahlatsi Moropo embarked on his acting journey nine years ago, but it wasn’t until 2021 that he truly experienced his breakthrough moment. Today, he lives out his passion for acting on-screen, portraying the character of Letetswe in “Skeem Saam,” one of South Africa’s most prominent soap operas.

A Dream Unfolds

At just 19 years old, Mahlatsi Moropo, hailing from Mahlasedi Park, South Africa, began his acting career. He reminisces about his journey, stating that his significant break came in 2021. He shares, “I have always loved the idea of stepping into someone else’s shoes, understanding their emotions, motivations, and struggles, and then portraying that on stage or screen. It’s like becoming a different person for a little while and experiencing life from a whole new perspective.”

The Art of Expressing Stories

For Mahlatsi Moropo, acting is an opportunity to breathe life into stories and characters. It allows him to express himself creatively and emotionally in ways that are beyond reach in his everyday life. His first production was “Our Cry,” a creation by Get Down Productions from the Mahuma Group, written and directed by the late Paul Rapetsoa and produced by Atome Rapetsoa.

Currently in Grade 12, Mahlatsi Moropo skillfully juggles his academic pursuits with his passion for acting. He recognizes the importance of effective time management to excel in both areas. He shares, “I focus on being efficient with my study sessions, setting specific goals for each one, which helps me stay on track and make the most of the available time. My passion motivates me to give my best to both pursuits.”

From Aspiration to Reality

Mahlatsi Moropo always aspired to be part of “Skeem Saam,” but initially, his family thought he was joking. He dedicated a considerable amount of time and effort to perfecting his craft and auditioning for different roles. When the opportunity finally presented itself, he seized it wholeheartedly.

Today, Mahlatsi Moropo is recognized wherever he goes, receiving abundant love and support from his fans. He says, “It’s always nice to have brief conversations and get acquainted. I even get asked to take selfies with fans.”

In the future, he envisions substantial growth within the industry, possibly even landing a lead role. His ambitions extend to studying film and directing, allowing him to contribute even more to the world of entertainment.
