Fatherhood Insights: Julius Malema’s Heartfelt Letter to His Son
Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), took a moment to celebrate his son, Ratanang, on his birthday. In a touching gesture, he chose to express his feelings through an open letter dedicated to his teenage son, which he shared in an Instagram post on Saturday, October 14th.
Julius Malema is happily married to his wife, Mantwa Matlala, and the couple has two children together. Additionally, Julius has an older child, Ratanang, from a previous relationship with Maropeng Ramohlale. Ratanang marked another year of life on that Saturday, and his father, the leader of EFF, had some heartfelt words to share.
“Happy birthday, Malema, our bright star.
You bring immense pride to our family, and I’m truly honored to call you my own. Fatherhood has been an incredibly fulfilling journey with you, infusing my life with purpose when hope seemed distant,” Julius wrote. “I looked into your eyes and those of my grandmother, making a solemn commitment never to let you down. I’ve done everything in my power to be a good father, and I’m delighted to see you turning out so well. Always remember, seek validation from within, and aim to be on the right side of history,” the EFF leader’s letter continued.

Ratanang Malema is currently in the 11th grade and enjoys DJing. He also has two stepbrothers, Kopano and Munzhedzi, from his father’s current marriage. Julius, in his open letter to his firstborn, underscored his dedication as a father.
“As you continue to grow, maintain your humility and treat all of humanity with respect.
Never allow anyone, regardless of their age or status, to take advantage of you. Work diligently and intelligently, avoiding dependency on handouts, for it’s through hard work and wise choices that genuine wealth is achieved. Remember the saying, ‘Bashavi Ke batho ba tšhelete,'” Julius penned.
“On this special day, my sunshine, I wish you a joyous celebration. May your birthday be brimming with laughter, love, and cherished moments,” he concluded.”
