Death saddens Robert Marawa

Simiso Buthelezi, a professional lightweight boxer, passed away unexpectedly in a KwaZulu-Natal hospital, breaking the heart of famed announcer Robert Marawa. When Buthelezi, 24, face Siphesihle Mtungwa in Ethekwini, he suffer brain damage and had to  put in the intensive care unit.

The referee stopped the bout even though Buthelezi had knocked out his opponent because Buthelezi appeared confused.

According to a joint statement issued by the Buthelezi family and Boxing South Africa, he unfortunately passed away due to the severity of his brain injury despite receiving outstanding medical attention. His funeral’s specifics will  revealed at a later date.

While many consider boxing a dangerous sport, advancements in medical science have helped mitigate the impact of even the most powerful blows. Although the idea of boxers wearing helmets for protection has not been seriously considere thus far, some people may contemplate its potential benefits.
